In the midst of the Quilt Market hubbub, I managed to finish that lace mohair scarf!
I actually worked on it in the airport and on the plane to Salt Lake City. On the trip back I was too tired and the light was too bad. I worked on one repeat and had to rip it out and gave up. But, still, I finished this way faster than I thought I would!
This is the Churchmouse English Mesh Lace Scarf in Rowan’s kidsilk haze (sans the beading). I really did not like knitting with the mohair. Just a mess to take out stitches. That said, my mother is going to love this (it’s for her birthday in August). It looks really stunning after being blocked (trust me). Do not skip the blocking! And the pattern was relatively easy. Just an eight-row repeat, 44 times! (Ravelry page with notes)
Oh — and this Sunday is my 40th birthday!
This is completely, utterly shocking to me. I’m gathering some friends for pizza and beer on Saturday to help me celebrate/get through the weekend. Then my sweet husband is taking me down to Monterey/Pacific Grove for some antique shopping, a nice dinner, and a stay at a REALLY nice inn. Should be a great weekend.
I hope you all have a great weekend as well, and for those of you in the States, a great Memorial Day holiday!

I turned 40 a few years ago and felt totally bewildered by it. That said, I’ve discovered (and in conversations other over-40s have agreed) that 40s are fantastic. Truly the best years of my life – and I’m much more relaxed about it (pre-40, I would never imagine freely admitting being over 40 as an example). Enjoy and happy birthday.
Also, gorgeous scarf. Nice birthday gift!
Happy Birthday! I never would have guessed that number from your photos. You’re gorgeous!
Here’s to May birthdays and husband’s spoiling us when we need it the most.
The scarf is lovely. I hope I become that talented with knitting, or at least find the time to return to quilting.
Happy Birthday, and enjoy your weekend! Rita
Happy birthday to you on Sunday! What a great day to celebrate. Welcome to turning 40 – hope you love it as much as I did. Enjoy your celebrations!
Happy Birthday!! Your plans sound like a lot of fun. Enjoy!! PS…the scarf you made is lovely.
