Remember my telling you about the custom quilt that I was making? And the piecing for it that I was working on a little while later?
Well, it’s all done!
I was thinking that this might not get delivered until after the first of the year, since my fabulous long-arm quilter was swamped for the holidays. But she totally rocks and managed to sneak this one in amongst the holiday quilts.
The star is pieced from shot cottons and one very tiny print in lighter shades of purple. The background is out of one particular color of shot cotton, but turned in different directions. I love how when you do this the light reflecting off it produces different colors. It’s a subtle difference that adds depth to the entire quilt and keeps the background interesting. And it looks just how I imagined it would.
The back is Kona cotton in lagoon, and the binding is Kona cotton in mulberry, I think. It’s the solid purple that most closely matched the shot cotton.
I took some photos for my web site before I send this off into the world, never to be seen by me again. I’m just waiting to hear back from the client to get this delivered!
I had a lot of fun working on this project. I’m always the most interested when I’m doing something new, and this one giant star was new and fun!

Holy cow. Holy cow. I mean, holy cow. That quilting! And the simplicity of the star against the dark purple…. I don’t like purple, but I like this. Great work. Really good stuff!
Wow, this is really stunning! I love the big star floating in that solid background. And I love the way you turned the background fabric to give this a cool effect in different lighting. Well done, Amy!
Wow. The quilting looks incredible on that. It always does, but it jsut works incredibly here.
Love it! And I love the contrast between all the piecing in the star on a “solid” background. And with the turquoise backing??? Fantastic!
Amy, this quilt is absolutely gorgeous. It looks even better than I could imagine it would. I know the recipient is going to love it, who wouldn’t. You did such a beautiful job. Good work! and Merry Christmas.
completely fabulous!
This came together so nicely! I love how the mix of colors in the big star makes it almost look like it’s shimmery and you just caught it at a certain angle; mixed with the shot cotton it’s beautiful. I pretty much love purple, so you had me there to begin with.
Who do you use for long arm quilting? It’s stunning!
Wow! Lovely quilt.
This is really fantastic – the layout, the colors, the quilting… Great job!
