Birth of Another Quilt — Final Design & Quilting

Let’s finish making the Greek To Me quilt!

Greek To Me Quilt

So, once I had all the quilt blocks made, I did my usual of laying them all out on the living room floor to arrange. I’ll spare you all the details on this one, but I try to make sure that there is good movement in the design and that various design elements are distributed in a pleasing fashion.

In this photo you can see that there was something I was keeping track of with little sticky notes, because they were easier to see at a glance.

Arranging the Greek To Me Quilt

After I had this all sewn together, I wanted to send it off for machine quilting to my long-arm quilter. I’ll cut this story a bit short and refer you to a previous post that talks about how my custom quilting design came to be. And can I just say that every time I get back a new quilt with this quilting design on it, I love it just a little bit more.

I opted for a dark green thread for the quilting that would blend with the background color, and I decided the only good choice for the binding was the dark green, because it would tie in the quilting thread color on the back of the quilt, which is a kind of crazy aloe shade.

Whew, that’s two quilts we’ve made in two weeks! Hopefully next week I’ll be able to fill you in on the Rome in Two Days quilt, which is the other design that I haven’t talked about yet on my blog. It was super fun to make, so I’m excited to tell you how the process went.
