Today for our shop-hop we’ll be checking out The Prairie Queens Quilt Shop in San Jose, CA.
**Please note that I didn’t do a thorough inventory of each of these stores, so if I say I didn’t see something, it doesn’t mean they definitely didn’t have it, I just didn’t see it.
Web site: Prairie Queens.
Location: 14922 Camden Avenue, San Jose, CA, in the Cambrian Park Plaza at the corner of Union and Camden Avenue.
Quilt shops around here seem to have a tendency toward signage that isn’t super obvious. Don’t look for a sign that says Prairie Queens. The sign says only “Quilt Shop”. It’s next to the hobby store.

Basic Fabrics: There are two significant color walls in this store. I was told that they carry some of the solids from Moda, but no other solids of any kind.
Color wall on one side:

Color wall on the other side:

Mostly stripes and dots:

This shop carries a LOT of Moda. If you like Moda, chances are that you’ll find something you like in this shop. I didn’t even come close to taking photos of all the shelves of Moda fabric. They really seem to go on and on.

They carry a lot of the Moda bake shop items, like jelly rolls and layer cakes, etc. as well.

I think these are all Michael Miller fabrics??

They carry batiks, holiday prints, traditional prints, and some Civil War era kinds of prints.
Designer Fabrics: In addition to what I’ve mentioned above, they have some collections like the American Jane fabrics pictured below. I did not see many fabrics by designers I recognized, though their web site says they carry some Japanese fabrics like Lecien.

Other Types of Fabrics: They also carry minkee, flannels, and wool.
I think most of these were flannels:

And these are the wools. She said they were going to be getting a lot of the wools in. They were $25.99 a yard.

Sales Section: Significant sales section. There was one section like this:

And two shelves like this:

Classroom: Large classroom that is frequently in use when I’m there.

Batting and Notions: Pretty good selection of notions.

The batting selection looks to be just several kinds on rolls to choose from, including the sometimes hard-to-find black.

Machines: This shop does not sell machines.
Other Items: This shop has a lot of kits of different kinds, including these kits with hand-dyed wools.

They have a display of COSMO embroidery floss.

They also have a lot of nice quilt samples, though I was asked not to take photos of the quilts, since some of them were on loan from other people and not owned by the shop.
They also have a long-arm quilting service at this shop.

Next stop on the tour:Golden Gate Sewing Center, Campbell, CA.
