Thanks so much to all of you for your support and encouragement in regards to my new business venture. I’ll definitely keep you posted on how it goes!
In my last post I also mentioned that I had some more news to share with you. Here it is:
I’ve gotten myself a part-time job!
I know! I won’t be starting until I get back from my trip to Vietnam in January, but I’m really super excited about it!
I’m going to be working at Bobbin’s Nest Studio in Santa Clara. Remember how I gushed about this shop when I finally made it there for the first time back in July? Well, now I’ll get to be there all the time! I’ll get to work in the shop, teach sewing classes, and in the slow times make samples for the shop. This sounds like so much fun, I can hardly believe it. I won’t start off with many hours, but hopefully they will ramp up fairly quickly (if I’m liking it!).
As my first official activity, I attended the Bobbin’s Nest holiday party last night. So funny to not even be working yet and to attend a party! Everyone had to bring a gift ($15 or less) to exchange.

I used the pattern from Last Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts for the pencil roll-up, but made it bigger so that it would accommodate knitting needles. Or, if you’re me and only own two pairs of knitting needles, it will accommodate paint brushes, upholstery needles, chopsticks, etc.

We all drew numbers and took turns picking a wrapped gift or stealing one that had already been unwrapped. Everyone was quite civil, but my knitting needle roll got stolen it’s maximum allowed number of times. It was nice that my gift was so loved, especially since it’s kinda hard to think of a gift to take for a group of people you don’t know at all!

Everyone was really nice, and the new job is looking like it’s going to be a lot of fun! Is it crazy to say that I’m kinda eager to get back from the trip to Vietnam so I can start working?? I can safely say that I’ve never had a thought like that before!

Hi Amy,
I’ve been following your blog for quite some time now but have not got a chance to comment. I am so glad you will be teaching at Bobbins Nest coz I am one of the customers there. It is a cozy cute little store and I am hoping to see you there someday, with sewing questions perhaps
I love knitting rolls, especially because you can use them for all those other things, like paint brushes, colored pencils, even makeup brushes. How fun that yours was a hit at the work party.
Congrats on your upcoming job! Sounds like it will be fun.
Well that settles it, I’ll have to make a trip down to the Bobbin’s Nest again soon. Hmmm, I see more knitting needles in your future;)
Congratulations Amy — on both your business venture and the new job. They both sound like a perfect match for your talents, and I can’t wait to see what you’re going to make. I just wish I lived closer so I could visit Bobbins Nest.
Love your present (especially the rainbow interior)– it was the perfect gift for a group of crafty people that you don’t know.
