I saw this recipe and really had to try it. But I definitely did not need all this chocolate lying around to consume. Brilliant idea — host gifts for an upcoming Yule party!

Too bad I didn’t think to photograph them before I put them in the cellophane! Made it kinda hard to get a good picture, especially with them smudging up the plastic.
I ended up with 9, so I made one of them up so I’d know if they were good enough to give as a gift (wink, wink). I used water instead of milk because, well, me and 8 ounces of milk straight up don’t go over so well any more. It turned out pretty well, I think, though I’m sure the author’s recommended 3 parts milk/1 part heavy cream would have been much richer!
If you’re interested, I used Ghirardelli 60% dark chocolate (baking bars) and Green & Black’s organic cocoa powder (which is processed with alkali) for the main part, and then dipped them in melted Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate (again, a baking bar) for the fun finish. Mmmm. Oh, and I used the leftover semi-sweet chocolate for dipping plain animal crackers, as per my husband’s suggestion. Good one, hon!

What a great gift idea! I think my husband would love these cuz he adores really chocolately hot chocolate. Looks like a fun project, so thanks for the tip.
I saw this recipe somewhere and have been dying to try it…looks like they came out great! Great host gift, too, btw!
Those look really tasty. That’s how a lot of the cafe’s in Belgium serve hot chocolate – on a stick that your stir around in steaming milk. Yum!
