It seems I have really been slacking in the blog arena lately. My apologies, but I just haven’t had much to say, you know? It’s like that sometimes. Classes are busy, and coming up toward the end of the quarter the projects get a bit more involved. But not much longer now!
In the meantime, I have completed a few more gifts. I kinda melded together instructions from a variety of places to make these placemats, napkins, and coasters. There are two different kinds of each, with narrow and wide strips of patchwork. The patchwork parts are bits from a line of fabric whose name escapes me right now. Forgive me for being too lazy to look it up. I bought most of it at the Fabric Depot in Portland, if that helps anyone.

Our table never looks like this, by the way. We never get this fancy. We do use these drinking glasses every day, but not usually the plates or the sherbert dishes. I LOVE this set of dishes though. They are a depression glass dessert set–these are the only three pieces in the set–made in the early 40′s as part of the WWII patriotic fervor. The pattern is called Stars and Stripes. They totally rock, but we never eat so much dessert that we need separate plates AND sherbert dishes. Maybe I should do something to remedy that?

In the meantime, the hubby and I are totally ready to rock that next trip to Vietnam, but, sadly, are doomed to have to wait for the departure date of Jan. 1, 2010. Woe are us. We must somehow manage to carry on in the meantime. We’ll just have to mainline seasons 3, 4, and however much more there is of Battlestar Galactica that we have been watching on Netflix in order to kill the time.
What is everyone doing this weekend? I honestly can not think of a thing that we have planned, other than the usual Sunday trips to the Farmers’ Market and Trader Joe’s. Anyone out there doing anything more exciting??

Gorgeous placemat/napkin/coaster set! This will definitely go over big with the gift recipient. Are you making a set of 4+? I love the fancy stitch detail at the bottom hem.
Lovely table setting! We never get fancy at my house either, hence the lack of nice table linens hehe If I make some, they’re always for other ppl.
I love the edging too! As for the weekend I am so excited. My youngest son (the one who has CP) is getting his custom made adapted bike tomorrow. Then on Sunday we are doing our family pictures. Who knows, Tim may be on his fancy new bike in our picture! I can not wait!!
These table settings are so gorgeous. Simple yet elegant looking! We usually have our table set with a nice table cloth or placemats, but not the nice dishes. What a great gift.
What a lovely set! The fabric line is Arcadia, by Sanae. Love that line!
Amy — You always come up with the best ideas — I love it that you even pieced the napkin — and the decorative stitching on the edge is such a nice detail.
A couple of questions — Did you add anything to stiffen the placemat, and did you face the hem edge of the napkin with another narrow blue strip?
What a nice place setting!I love that stitching on the bottom of the placemat and napkin! how did you do that? And I always admire depression glass. I grew up using the green depression glass dessert plates…
What lovely place settings.. I love how you did the decorative stitching around the edges of the placemats, a nice touch.
Depression glass is so pretty, you have some wonderful pieces there. I hope your weekend went well!
This table setting is gorgeous! I love the linens that you made and the dessert set is so pretty!
