I finally got this quilt to its intended recipient and can show it to you! Yippee! It’s for some friends who are having their second son ANY TIME NOW (Hi Katie and Jonathan!)!!
The fabrics are from Ikea. I totally could not resist them when I saw them, back during this shopping trip.

The front is a bunch of hippos, and the quilting is a bunch of different colors of ties, all tied at the tails. Those of you who follow along may recall that this was not plan A for the quilting, but I turned out to really like how this looks in the end.

The back is a really fun multi-colored stripe, with an extra hippo stitched on for the label.

At this point you may be wondering why this quilt is called “Paula.” It’s quite simple really. I was already making this quilt when the intended recipients posted the following video of their first son (read the details here).

Darling! I love the look of the tied tails. Quite ingenious! I’m sure the intended will love it; as soon as he gets here! I also like the little hippo on the back. Sweet!
What an adorable quilt! I love how you tied it right where the tails would be. Always wanted to try tying a quilt. The backing fabric is perfect too.
I have that red hippo fabric which I’ve been so reluctant to use because it’s so cute! I might just have to… I love how you used it!
I love the ties!
Adorable quilt! That hippo fabric is so cute.
tying a the quilt through the tails = genius.
I love the hippos! I think I need to get to IKEA to look for fabric!
Fabulous quilt, perfect tying it at the tails, I think you’re a genius!
Finn loves it, of course, and may or may not let his little brother share. He likes to point out all the “Paulas,” and tell me what color their tails are.
I love IKEA fabric!! This is so cute with the little multicolored ties. Love it!
Such a fun quilt! I love how you did the ties on the tails– and multicolored to boot. Very clever and fun!
