Okay, I admit that the last one was not strictly required for the trip, but I’m excited to be down to the last step of that massive project. (Not sure what is up with the colors in the quilt photo. Looks kinda weird.)
On top of the whole first trip to Portland, attending the Denyse Schmidt Quilting class, and getting to see the Gee’s Bend quilt exhibit at the Elizabeth Leach Gallery — which frankly is enough to make my head explode — I got a surprise in the mail today. Darling fabrics!

The package was from Sew, Mama, Sew! That sweet (Amy Butler?) notecard at the bottom right just said “Thank you!” I guess in turn I should thank the two winners of my giveaway who chose gift certificates from Sew, Mama, Sew!, since they are apparently thanking me for giving away their gift certificates in my giveaway. So, thanks Lynn and Arizona!
And I don’t think I ever mentioned (since someone was asking)…the yard of Denyse Schmidt’s fabric that I won as part of the Summer of Making giveaway was Patchwork Promenade (as seen here at Pink Chalk Fabrics). It’s beautiful and a little heavier weight than I was expecting it to be. I’m still scheming about what to do with it, but I’m actually thinking it might match in the spare room with the Love Beads quilt??? I’ll have to wait and see once the quilt’s on the bed.
Okay, that’s it. I promise to file a thorough report with you when I get back from Portland. I have decided against taking the computer with me (could be rough going!).
Have a great weekend everyone!

Aw man, you are going to have such a fabulous weekend! I wish I could come with you. I saw a Gee’s Bend Quilt exhibit at the Milwaukee Art Museum a few years ago – it’s amazing to see in person. I can’t wait to hear all about Denyse and the class. Have a blast!!!
I wish I were going to PDX too! Have fun
What a great trip you will have!
I was just pouring over Gee’s Bend quilt books on Amazon for the past hour when I decided to check out your blog, and lo and behold… I want to hear all about it when you get back!!
I’ve been working on a very traditional quilt through a Moda U monthly class, so doing a free-form make-it-up-as-you-go-along project seems the perfect “antidote”.
Have a great time at class and at the exhibit!
Have a wonderful time! Portland is great, I hope that you’ll be able to get out and about a little, and have a wonderful time in class! How fun!
If you have a chance, get by the Saturday market down on the waterfront! It’s great fun!
