Amy a la Mode’s One Year Anniversary Giveaway!

Woo hoo! Happy one year anniversary to Amy a la Mode! To celebrate, I made strawberry shortcake (actually sponge cake cupcakes with sliced strawberries and vanilla yogurt instead of whipped cream).

Strawberry Shortcake 1

Strawberry Shortcake 2

Also to celebrate, I’m giving gifts to you! Since I figure fabric is a favorite of most who sew, and there’s nothing like getting to pick out your own, I have decided to give away gift certificates to some great online suppliers.

Grand Prize: $50 gift certificate to PurlSoho, Pink Chalk Fabrics, or Sew, Mama, Sew!

Second Prize: $25 gift certificate to PurlSoho or Pink Chalk Fabrics

Third Prize: $10 gift certificate to Pink Chalk Fabrics or Sew, Mama, Sew!

The reason that all three shops are not an option for Second and Third Prize is that not all the shops had all the gift certificate denominations available.

Now for the RULES:
1. In order to qualify for any of the prizes, you must leave a comment on this post by midnight Pacific Daylight Time on Friday, July 10. Please tell me which quilt on the “My Quilts” page or the “Family Quilts” page of this blog is your favorite. If you don’t mention at least one quilt, you won’t be qualified for the prize!

2. Please be sure to fill in your e-mail address in the comment form so I can contact you if you win (you don’t need to put it in the comment box, just in the e-mail box on the form).

3. Only people who comment on this post AND have commented previously on this blog are eligible for the Grand Prize. The Second and Third prizes are open to anyone who comments on this post, whether or not they have commented previously.

4. Sometime after midnight on July 10, I will choose the winners at random.

5. Because PurlSoho, Pink Chalk Fabrics, and Sew, Mama, Sew! all offer international shipping, anyone in the world is eligible to win these awesome prizes!!

6. Gift certificates will be purchased and delivered electronically.

Questions? Let me know. Otherwise, good luck to you all!

  • I love strawberry shortcake in any form! Yum :D

This is my entry to the giveaway — It’s a tough choice to make but I think your Back to Amsterdam quilt is my fave because it always boggles my mind!

  • Marilyn

Without a doubt #10 The Real Mccoy…….I am in love
with those plain spoken quilts……..Just ordered the
solid fabric and am going to give it a try.

    Marilyn

  • My favorite quilt is Oh My Stars! Just love those scrappy stars.

  • Hi! What a great Anniversary party! I’ve been reading your blog for a while (hope I’ve commented before!) – LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the family quilt series! My favorite is probably the nine patch with solids. But it’s so hard to choose! I also love your Hop, Skip, & a Jump quilt!

  • Judy

I think my favorite is your bouncing baby quilt, but the amsterdam is a close second… all of them are beautiful!

  • Michelle

I love Back to Amsterdam. It is beautiful and such a clever idea.

  • CONGRATULATIONS! you’ve come a long way in one year! My favorite quilt is the Real McCoy, I remember drooling over it when you made it and I am still drooling now. I have always wanted to do a plain spoken quilt, and revisiting yours makes me want to do it sooner than later! Great color choices.

  • Happy Blogiversary (or however one spells it!). Thanks for the generous giveaway too :) Although I love the circles in your most recent quilt, I think Hop, Skip, and a Jump wins out as my fave. Enjoy your strawberr shortcake.

  • terriaw

Congratulations on your one year anniversary! How exciting. It’s been so fun getting to know you through our blogs. It always amazes me how much we have in common. How did you know that strawberry shortcake is my all-time favorite dessert? It looks so yummy.

Great idea for your giveaway! It’s hard to pick just one favorite of your family quilts, so for today, I would pick the Wedding Gift quilt with the LeMoyne Stars. I love how the stars look like they are dancing.

  • I love your Simple Modern Baby Quilt. The colors are fantastic. Happy Anniversary!

  • I loved the Real McCoy so much that I went out and got the book (The Modern Quilt Workshop) so that this can be my first quilt…

Seriously in love with the simplicity / complexity.

  • Jenny

The red cross stitch is my favorite family quilt and I love the picnic blanket with rock pockets. Happy Anniversary! Dessert looks amazing!!

  • Zeddie

I really like the Real McCoy quilt. I have the book and I’ve been intending to make the quilt and I love the fabrics you’ve used. From a distance, the quilting makes it look like there are striped fabrics and I’m partial to stripes. I also like quilts that are simple and modern and this fits the bill on both counts.

  • My favorite is Back to Amsterdam. I saw that quilt in Flickr and have liked it ever since. The quilting is great, especially the windows. Congrats on the 1 year!!

  • LeAnn

The Real McCoy is beautiful – I love the colors. I have to admit though, all of your quilts are fantastic. Happy Anniversary!

  • Lauren

    Great giveaway!

My favorite is The Real McCoy. Great quilts!

  • Candee

I love the Oh My Stars! You are so talented!

  • tracy_a

Happy blog-day! I love the real McCoy – love the peaceful colors and the quilting pattern – and the video tutorial! thanks for sharing!

  • Your stacked coins quilt is the thing that drew me to your blog the first time, so that’s got to be my favorite. I love the blues and greens against the brown sashing.
    Happy one year anniversary!

  • My favorite is the Bouncing Baby Blanket. It’s got everything I’m finding myself attracted to these days – lots of white, great retro fabrics, a rainbow of colors, and circles! It’s just beautiful, as are your other quilts!

  • I really like your Dad’s Grandma’s Garden quilt, probably since I’m working on hexagons myself. Thanks for doing the giveaway!

  • I love all of the quilts in your family series – I enjoyed that very much. My favs are the quilts your dad made – the unexpectedness of a guy quilting did me in!

  • I am also a sucker for the wedding ring quilt, so my favorite quilt in your family quilts album is the white double wedding ring quilt. I also love your bouncing baby blanket and have it bookmarked in my quilts to make folder!! Congrats on one year!

  • jenny

I’m rather new to reading your blog. I love your quilts and the camera case! I have a favorite quilt from each of your pages. I really like the white double wedding ring quilt. I have always been fascinated by those quilts, but they intimidate me. My daughter is getting married on Aug. 1, but I am making her and her husband to be just a striped scrappy quilt because I don’t think I could do the double wedding ring. On your “My Quilts” page I like the “Hop, Skip, and Jump” quilt. The red and white just jumps out at me, but all of your quilts are beautiful. Congratulations on your one year anniversary!

  • I would LOVE to win a prize. I would love to break my habit of being the unluckiest person in the world!!

My fave by far is the LeMoyne Star. If i don’t win a prize can i have that instead ??? hehe..

  • I’m going to have to go with your stacked coin quilt! I just love the colors all framed by the chocolate brown. Beautiful!! And congrats on the blog-o-versary! What an amazing give away!

  • Happy first anniversary! It’s amazing how fast a year goes! I love your “Back to Amsterdam” quilt – it has stuck with me in my mind since seeing it in the quilt festival :)

Thanks for sharing on your anniversary!

  • Martha G

Happy Anniversary! I love your Dad’s Grandma’s Garden. It’s so detailed and intricate. I always hop over to your blog from Film In the Fridge every day.

  • Linnea

This was such an easy decision for me…I love your Real McCoy quilt. Actually love might not be strong enough. I especially like how the colors co-ordinate with your pottery…oh, and that it is so modern and fresh feeling without being made of modern or bright fabrics. Congrats on the anniversary and thanks for the giveaway :)

  • Ellen

Happy Blogiversary! The strawberry shortcakes look delish and particularly before lunch.

My fave of your quilts is the bouncing baby, those circles boggle my beginner’s mind! I also loved the looks at all the family quilts, the attention and details they require amazes me!

Thanks for the great give away, fingers crossed!

  • Happy anniversary! I made strawberry shortcake yesterday too – mmmmm!

My favorite quilt is Hop, Skip and a Jump. I like the abstract design and red is my favorite color.

Best wishes to you for another wonderful “bloggy” year. :)

  • Yay! Have one year anniversary!

I LOVE the Bouncing Baby Blanket….I would love to try it but curves scare me!

Love your blog! Thanks for the giveaway!

  • Happy Blogiversary Amy! Hmm, I still think that Back to Amsterdam is my favorite. I just love those houses. I’ve only been to Amsterdam’s airport so have never seen them in real life. But I do have a row of blue/white houses that are from KLM Airlines. They sit on my fireplace, not quite a riverfront.

  • I would have to say that my favorite are the picnic quilts with the rock pockets… what a cute idea! I love the fall colored one because it has all the colors I use in my house and my husband loves Shushi so he would like that too. Really, all your quilts are beautiful!

Thanks for the giveaway! and Happy Aniversary!

  • I love the colors in The Real McCoy quilt, but I think I’d choose the Back to Amsterdam quilt as my top pick. I love the idea of making a quilt to document your travels. And I think the little houses are just too cute!

The stories of your family’s quilt are always a joy to read. As a “first generation” quilter with no other family or friends who quilt, I love reading about families that pass this amazing gift on to their children. I’m inspired to teach my children someday (I hope).

Thank you for your darling blog and for the chance to win some goodies!

  • My favorite quilt is the Bouncing Baby Blanket. I love those circles, and I’m not so good at sewing curves myself — this lets me live vicariously through your lovely curve sewing. :-) Thanks so much for the chance to win :-)

  • Kami

    Happy Anniversary!
I love your simple modern baby quilt, I’m always attracted to simple patterns that use great choice of fabrics to become beautiful.
Thanks for the giveaway! Your “shortcake” looks delicious.

  • Bridget

I’m quite a big fan of all your quilts, but the one that probably speaks to me most is Keep It Simple as I’ve got almost exactly the same problem and this quilt has demonstrated how to solve it. I love this blog I’ve only started reading it recently but it’s so full of inspiration. Thanks for writing it.

  • susi rddriguez

congrats! i love them all but love the amsterdam the best

  • BarbaraG

Congrats on the anniversary! I love the Bouncing Baby Blanket. SO cheerful and sweet.

  • Happy blog birthday! What a lucky day for me to find you! I love your Amsterdam quilt. I am excited to see what comes out of your trip to Portland. I am off to a workshop with Gwen Marston this week so I am not kicking myself TOO hard for not finding out about Denyse coming to my backyard. Best wishes!

  • Amy

It’s a toss up for me between the Bouncing Baby and Hop Skip and a Jump. The Bouncing Baby one is gorgeous. Lovely contrasting values and has me thinking I need to try circles!

  • I love the real mccoy. The colors you chose are fantastic. Congrats on the anniversary!!

  • Barbara

My favorite is the Bouncing Baby Quilt—I had wondered in a previous comment how much fabric you used in the prints and the plain. If you remember, could you post it as I’d like to make something similar? I’m finding that 1930′s fabric is not easy to come by.

  • Megan

I really love the LeMoyne Star and your Bouncing Baby blanket… I like the bold shapes on the white ground.

  • mjb

I think your Amsterdam quilt is beautiful!

  • I love the Bouncing Baby blanket!

  • What a nice giveaway! My favorite (and the whole reason why I found your blog) is your “The Real McCoy” quilt. I still LOVE it. The colors are fantastic and you have inspired me to make my own version. Congratulations on making it a year!

  • Bonnita

Goose in the Pond is my favorite from My Quilts. I’m a sucker for those colors. Thanks for a great giveaway!

  • Wow! So generous. And yay for me b/c I’ve commented before.

So favorite quilt would probably be the real mccoy one. Love the colors and the simplicity. I’m also partial to the stacked coins one.

    Here’s hoping I win!

  • I have really enjoyed your Family Quilts series, but I have to say, my favorite quilt is your Stacked Coins quilt. I love the simplicity of it, and the brown combined with those blue and aquas just makes my heart sing.

Congratulations on your one year anniversary!

  • Carol

I love your Back to Amsterdam quilt. You’re so blessed to have so many family quilts. Of those, I like the Wedding Ring ones the best–the symbolism and the colors. And your strawberry shortcake looks so good, I’ll need to go out tomorrow and get some of the last of our good Oregon berries. Thanks for the opportunity to win.

  • Lauren

I’m a big fan of the Simple Modern Baby Quilt!

  • It’s impossible for me to pick only one favorite, but for the sake of trying my luck for the giveaway, I’m going to say the pink dresden/wagon wheel baby in the family quilts. Thanks and congrats to the winners, whoever they may be!

  • Choosing only one is hard! I love the colors and fabric choices in Simple Modern Baby Quilt. And love the Real McCoy colors too (I’m working on that quilt myself, will post it soon.) And I have a soft spot for the Goose in the Pond :-) .

BTW please post the shortcake recipe. It looks so fluffy and yummy! Happy Anniversary!

  • Wow. I am a sucker for double wedding ring, and really love the white one, but I think my favorite is your stacked coins quilt. I especially love the thoughtfulness that went into the pieced backing. The quilting really sparkles, and is really fantastic on the back!
I’m loving the idea of your “shortcake”! It sounds like it’d be great for breakfast! :)

  • Congratulations on your one year anniversary! Of your quilts, Back to Amsterdam is my favorite — I just love everything about that quilt….the design, the colors, and the incredible quilting. Of the family quilts, I would have to say Baby Animals because I am completely into embroidered quilts right now and Great Grandma Roloff’s quilt has inspired me with it’s darling embroidery and red quilting.

  • Congratulations!
My favorite is the Seven Sisters quilt. Love that pattern, and yours is beautifully done. Also like your Amsterdam quilt, which captures the feel of the city.

  • Congratulations on one year of blogging! I have a hard time picking one of your quilts as a favourite since many are really amazing in terms of colour (The real McCoy and the stacked coins) but also in design the Amsterdam quilt and the bouncing baby. I am so intrigued by quilts with houses on them, and yours is truly well done! I hope to see more beautiful quilts in your blogging years to come!

  • Amy-
I have to say that I love you bouncing Baby Quilt best of all, I just love the hand quilting. Congrats on your anniversary. I have enjoyed reading your blog over the last nine months or so.

    Suzette

  • karen

I love the yellow cross stitch quilt. How lucky you are to have such a wonderful collection of family hierlooms.

  • Sandy

What a talented family you have! My favorite is Back to Amsterdam. I love how you did the backing, I would never have thought of that.

  • Madrona

It’s so hard to choose just one! I have a favorite from each page — definitely the Iris quilt from the family page (I love irises!), and the Amsterdam quilt from the My Quilts page. Between the two, I think I’d have to choose the Amsterdam one, as buildings have a special place in my family’s heart.

  • The Real McCoy provided the inspiration for my own Plain Spoken project, so that’s my favorite! I think I’ve left you comments before…at least I’m hoping I have! :)

  • Kristin

I like the Rockin Rock Pockets quilts. The colors are great, and I can definitely appreciate your machine quilting pattern even more since I’ve just done my first machine quilting in a similar pattern. It’s tough to do, but I’m hoping to do more in the future!

  • Kel

Very cool, Amy…looking forward to see who won! I know I’m posting after the contest ends, but had to say that my personal favorites are Goose in the Pond and the spring-colored picnic blanket….! The rock pockets are fabulous.

  • the bouncing baby blanket has to be my favorite. You used such beautiful fabrics and it looks like a quilt I can picture snuggling a baby in.

  • I love the bouncing baby quilt and the double wedding ring quilt. I am dying to try a quilt with curves in it, but I am a bit intimidated and don’t want to take on too much.

What kind of pattern/block would be one that you would recommend trying for your first quilt with curves in?

    Thanks!

  • Corrie

What a great giveaway! I love your site. I”m new to quilting and your work is inspirational.
My favorites are “Hop, Skip and Jump” and the “Simple Modern Baby Quilt.”

  • Congrats on one year! I’ve enjoyed seeing photos of all of your lovely quilts, as well as all of your family quilts. it’s certainly hard to pick a favorite, but i’ve always been impressed by your back to amsterdam quilt. i think it’s just such a great unique design with lovely colors and great quilting. Plus, I like the story behind it! Thanks so much for such a generous giveaway!

  • Jen V

My stomach was growling when I saw your shortcake & strawberries!

First off, I love the quilting on the Stacked Coin Quilt. I’ve only done stippling & straight lines with my walking foot so I was really impressed with your swirly design. Bravo. Perhaps in the next year you would like to post more about that part of the process? I’d love to learn more.

Second, the Double Wedding Ring is gorgeous. We have one in my family too but it hasn’t held up over the years. It is a pattern that I would like to try sometime but I’m going to need a lot more scraps! What a great tradition to share with other generations.

Lastly, Bouncing Baby is so sweet! Nice handwork & perfect curves. Thanks for sharing all these quilts. They are so inspiring.

  • Margie

Congratulations & I too love strawberry shortcake. Wow your quilts are so beautiful ! My favorite is #7 Simple Modern Baby Quilt. Its so pretty & that yellow minky back is so soft & cuddly!! Love it!! Actually love them all its so very hard to pick a favorite since I’m really drawn to the wedding ring quilts.

  • Sarah S

Ok, I am so in love with your Amsterdam quilt! I have never been to Amsterdam, but the quilt actually reminds me of when I went to Prague. The buildings were all so colorful and each one made a new statement. I heard that it was because once the country was liberated they decided to make it as colorful as they could! I love that!

Thanks for the fabulous giveaway, I hope I win! Oh, and I’ve added you to my subscription so I don’t miss out on a thing!

  • annette

    Congratulations!

I LOVE you ‘back to Amsterdam’ Quilt!

It cought my eye right away. I was born and raised in Holland, and the coziness (gezelligheid)of the Dutch streets (especially the big city streets) really shows in your quilt!
I miss it, though the space here (AB Canada) is a welcome change to the business in Holland;)

All the best with your blog!

  • Tricia C.

Congratulations on your one year anniversary! I love the Bouncing Baby Quilt. The colors and circles and fabrics are the perfect combination. The circles are so intimidating, but I am hoping to try it in my next quilt. Thanks for the wonderful blog. You inspire me!

  • I love, love, love #5 “Picnic Blankets with Rock Pockets” (the one using the Heather Bailey fabric)!!!! So beautiful!

    Love your blog!

  • Congrats on your first blogiversary! You have some beautiful work but my favorite is the Hop, Skip and Jump in red and white. I love the simplicity of it and just the little bit of off-kilterness. Fun!

  • Beth

What a great give-a-way – wish I had commented earlier! I used to be in love with the colors of the Real McCoy until I saw the Bouncing Baby Quilt. I love the bright colors in those vintage prints and the circles are great, too. I love to look at inspiring work, thanks.

  • I love Back To Amsterdam. A very close second is Bouncing Baby.

This is a great giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

  • Hmmm…. It’s hard to choose. I really like the Yellow Cross-Stitch, because it’s so unique. I’m not a quilter nor do I come from a quilting family, and it’s so interesting to see your family history in that way.

Your Amsterdam quilt is quite impressive, though, too. It’s hard to pick one favorite when I like so many for different reasons. Thanks for sharing!

  • Hi! I found out about your blog on sewmamasew – Thanks for the chance to win such great prizes!

  • Nova

I like the Bouncing Baby Blanket.

  • Glad I found your blog! I think the Keep It Simple quilt is my favorite!

My fave one is Red Double Wedding Ring.

  • I like your Bouncing Baby Quilt the very best. It is soo cute! Thanks for the fun giveaway.

  • I enjoy all of your quilts, but I guess I would have to say “The Real McCoy” is one of my favorites. The colors are just amazing. They seem so vibrant in one picture, yet comforting and welcoming. Thanks!!

  • Bouncing Baby is my favorite design, but I love the purpose and simple beauty of the picnic quilts with rock pockets. ( I also like your dad’s Grandma’s Garden: I love classic patterns!)

  • Congratulations on your one year! I think that Back to Amsterdam is still one of my favorites, although I love all your quilts!

  • call me crazy
