Welcome to my final Family Quilts installment. At least for now. I’ll see if I can’t dig up some more to show you sometime! Must be some more around somewhere (like the quilts my sister and I used on our beds when we were little, the ones that have been used in my parents cars for decades, etc.).

This one I am calling Flowers in Stars, and is a combination of an eight-pointed star and applique flowers. So cute! As usual, this is all hand pieced and hand quilted by my Great Grandma Roloff, apparently a powerhouse of a quilter. It is utterly impossible to pick a favorite from among all of these, but this one is definitely one of my favorites!
This is a traditional eight-pointed star pattern, with appliqued flowers in the middle — neither of which we have seen in any of the previous quilts (I don’t think). The variety in this collection is really amazing!

There are so many lovely vintage fabrics here, and so many lovely combinations, that I can’t resist posting a lot of photos. I wish I had a close up of every one of these stars.

I was apparently so entranced by these lovely stars, that I did not get any photos of the back of the quilt, but the edge of this one is slightly scalloped. No way to tell from these photos if it’s a self-binding or separately-attached binding, but I would guess separately-attached, as using bias binding would have been needed to do the curves neatly.

If you check out the larger versions of the photos at Flickr you’ll see that the quilting is mostly a traditional flower wreath kind of pattern within the center circles, as well as a double version in the setting squares. There are also additional quilting elements in the corners of the squares and on the star points.

And some close ups of a few that really caught my eye!

I’m hoping to do a summary of the Family Quilts soon, and I’ll probably create a permanent page on the ‘ol blog for these. When I find the time between my homework assignments. ![]()
I hope you enjoyed this last one!

What a gorgeous quilt! I love your idea of a Family Quilt theme!
I love this quilt. I have accessed your blog from looking at the exhibitors in the Quilt Festival. I loved your Amsterdam Quilt too. I know I will be returning to future blogs.

I think this one is my favorite from your family quilt treasures! I love the flowers in the stars, and the color of the background, and the color of the border. It’s cheerful, springy, and gorgeous all over. The hand work is amazing. Plus, it’s fun to see this selection of vintage fabrics.
thank you for sharing these, I just have enjoyed seeing everyone of them
this is a beauty one I have wanted to make, someday!
Keep at the homework!

Another fantastic quilt! What treasures your family has! I was just looking at a photo the other day of a vintage quilt using this design. It was in darker fabrics and wasn’t nearly as cheerful and fun as yours. Thanks again for sharing!
I love the combo of stars and some applique petals. I sure hope you can dig up some more family quilts…I love these posts!
Absolutely breathtaking. I wish I could do things like this, but I just deal in feedsacks. Keep up the gorgeous work, museum piece this is.

I thought you might want to know the pattern name for this one: Missouri Daisy.
Beautiful quilt, but those “flowers” aren’t appliqued on the star, they are pieced two the points, with curved seams, the star is them set together with the background, and then the center of the “flowers are gathered to give a puffy look, then a center is appliqued over the middle. Most commonly called Kansas Sunflower or Missouri Daisy.
