Welcome back to the Family Quilts series here on my little blog. This is another of the quilts from my Great Grandmother’s collection that we are attributing to her. This is again hand pieced and hand quilted, but based on the fabrics in this one I think this one is not as old as some of the others (but I’m no expert!).
This one is a cute little nine patch.

The nine-patches are organized in rings by color, based on the solid-color pieces of each nine-patch. The center square is blue and is surrounded by pink, then blue/green, then yellow, etc.

The border is an orange-y fabric with green and yellow. This quilt has a separate binding, as opposed to the self-binding that many of the quilts have had. If you look at all the pictures carefully you’ll see that the binding has been pieced together out of several different fabrics. I wish I had better pictures so we could see just how much piecing the binding has!

The back is a pinkish/purple-ish color. The quilting for this one was done in a zig-zag. Click on the photo below to go to Flickr, where you can see the quilting better in the large version (click on “All Sizes”).

Stay tuned — the next (and last!) two quilts in my Family Quilts series are two of my favorites!

Interesting! I have one quilt that was quilted with a zig zag in my collection too.
