Postcards from Paradise

I found out recently that a friend of mine is getting married in Hawaii later in March. This definitely called for an addition to The List. Since the wedding/honeymoon are in Hawaii, I thought a Hawaiian themed quilt was in order. And it just so happened that I had a bunch of Hawaiian fabric in my stash. Woo hoo! And when it was done it totally reminded me of a bunch of postcards, so I have named it “Postcards from Paradise.” Voila!

For the front I used a bunch of 5×5-ish and 7×7-ish squares that I have. I say “ish” because these were apparently remnants from a muu muu factory in Hawaii and they were mostly not square, so the piecing is pretty wonky. I just made it all fit and made it as big as I could with what I had. I also had some pieces of yardage that I used for the back and the binding. This quilt really makes me smile!

That yellow square is one of my favorite fabrics in the quilt. The quilting is done in a hanging diamonds pattern. I need to remind myself that grid quilting is kind of boring! I always think it will be the easiest thing to do and then half-way through I remember that it isn’t!

I gave it to her last night and she loved it! Best wishes, Cass and Jeff!
