This Family Quilts post highlights the second quilt made by my father. This one is made with little hexagons. I have no idea if this is a particular pattern of some kind or if he made up this sort of long stretchy diamonds shape himself. This is all hand pieced and hand quilted.

Again, the backing is a solid muslin (I didn’t get a shot of it) and is folded over to the front to make the binding. These are some wild and crazy colors!!

What a cute pattern of little stars the stitching makes in each of those little hexagons. After having just had my first hand quilting class last Friday, I’m now way impressed with the hand quilting on this. Way to go dad!

Wow! Your dad is very talented. That is beautiful quilting. How old was he when he started quilting?
I love those stars quilted in each hexagon. And I love the way your dad put these hexagons together into that sort of diamond/zig-zag pattern. I have two hexagon projects I’m dying to make, and this is very motivating!
This is a great design. Your father is very talented!
This is amazing! I really love the crazy colors and patterns in this. It sort of reminds me of Holly Hobbie. I have been itching to try making a hexagon quilt for some time now. I might have to stick to the doll quilt size for now, though.
Hello from Kentucky, My grandmother helped me to make this pattern while I was in high school (1976). She called this pattern “Pickle Dish”. Beautiful quilt. You are a lucky girl.
