Welcome everyone to another installment of my family quilts!
I’m not sure there is a combination more classic than red and white. There are a pair of these twin-sized quilts, made by my Grandma Weber for my, ahem, parents’ beds (and I swear this was not I Love Lucy! And that I am not that old!). Like the Yellow Cross Stitch quilt, these may have been machine pieced (or pieced by hand, or some of both), but are definitely hand quilted and cross-stitched.
I actually took the right sort of pictures here to be able to show you each of the different block quilting patterns from the front and the back. Get out!
This is one of the cross-stitched blocks (clearly).
And a cross-stitched block from the back.
This is one of the corner blocks.
And a corner block from the back.
And here is one of the central blocks.

And one of those from the back. Cute flowers!
Here you can see the quilting along the border, and also the dire condition of the edge of this quilt. This is another quilt without a binding where the front and back edges were just turned under and stitched together. If ever anything could convince me of the value of a good binding, this does.
The back is a solid muslin and the red quilting really looks great from the back!

I don’t think I’ve commented yet, but thanks for sharing the quilts. It’s an interesting way to see the general evolution of quilting (and lack thereof, sometimes) over the past generations.
nothing says classic like a red and white quilt! This is gorgeous!
