Hello, and welcome to my family quilts! You’re in for a treat today. This one is a real cutie.
This is a baby quilt from my Great Grandma Roloff that is hand pieced and hand quilted. However, it’ is very unusual for this collection, because the only piecing really was sewing the border to the center piece. The pattern of this quilt comes from some really sweet embroidery and lively quilting.
Yet again, we have no idea who the baby was that this quilt belonged to, but I’m sure he or she was loved to have gotten a quilt like this! I love the fleur de lis around the border!
Another difference between this quilt and the rest of the ones from my Great Grandma Roloff is that this one does not have binding, but has the front and back sewn together, like the Yellow Cross Stitch quilt from the other side of my family. That actually makes me wonder if this was made by someone else as a gift and given to my Great Grandma and we just assume it was made by her (guilt by association and all that). But it *is* very different from all the others we are attributing to her.
The animals alternate with small “wreaths” of flowers. There is a butterly.
A duck.
An elephant.
And a rabbit.
