Family Quilts — Simple Squares

Today’s family quilt is not vintage and is very simple. This quilt was made by my Grandma Weber (mother’s mother) and is just a simple construction of squares. It is hand quilted but may have been hand pieced or machine pieced (or possibly a little of both, as my Wedding Quilt appears to be).

This quilt is more of a twin size, if I recall correctly. The pattern is, well, just a bunch of squares!

As far as I can tell, this was randomly pieced. Although with complete randomness I would have expected to see two pieces of the same fabric next to each other at some point. There are a lot of instances where two of the same fabric are diagonal to one another, but never directly next to. Kinda sounds like she couldn’t help fussing with it a little, huh?

The backing is a solid piece of this crazy flowered print, and the quilting is done in a diagonal grid, all the way to edges of the blue border. A bright and modern quilt!

  • This is a great quilt. I love to think about what my great grammie was thinking when she pieced my favorite quilt. I could look at family quilts all day. Thanks for sharing!
