New on the Shelf This Christmas

I am *very* excited about some books that I got for Christmas this year from my mom and my brother. Of course, it’s easy to get things you like when you have to tell people what you want. 🙂 But it does cut back on all the exchanging. My family (myself included) just is not very good at figuring out what other people in the family would really like to have. Their tastes are a bit of a mystery to me, as are mine to them, I’m sure.

I received the lovely Gentle Art of Domesticity by Jane Brocket, and the amazing Quilts of Gee’s Bend. These two books are like so much eye candy. I have read a little of Jane Brocket’s book, but have only flipped through some of the pictures from Gee’s Bend. I’m really loving these already, and already watched a movie suggested by Jane — Brodeuses, or, as it was listed on Netflix, Sequins. A lovely French film (and a shout out to Netflix for finally getting that Watch Instantly feature to work on Macs — brilliant!!)

I also received Sew U by Wendy Mullin and Liberated Quiltmaking by Gwen Marston. I haven’t had a chance to look at Sew U yet, but I have been enjoying Liberated Quiltmaking while having tea at the coffee shop. My brother did a great job locating this out-of-print book. It seems to be a discarded copy from the Bethlehem Public Library, which I found very fitting for a Christmas gift!

I am really excited to work on so many different things at the moment. Lots of ideas are running around in my head, so I hope to have some fun things to show you.
