When we were in Kentucky in October we got my mother-in-law a new cell phone (hers was the pits!). So when we asked her what she wanted for Christmas this year she insisted that we had bought her the phone and she didn’t need anything else. Well, I can’t let that go. We had to get her something! But time was ticking as the last-day-to-ship-to-the-east-coast-and-have-it-arrive-by-Christmas was quickly arriving (it was Monday, by the way). So, I popped off a few little things for her.
This is the tote bag from Last Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts by Joelle Hoverson. This is a great go-to book for, well, just that! The fabric I chose wasn’t very heavy so I used some heavyweight fusible interfacing on the outside fabrics and it turned out really nice. That bottom fabric is Amy Butler Lotus.
I also made her this cute little zippered pouch to match it. The lining for the tote bag is the same solid green as the lining of this.
I also decided to make her one of the pot holders from In Stitches. After rummaging through my stash I found this awesome bacon and eggs print that I think is Michael Miller that I bought off someone who was de-stashing. Cracks me up to think of a potholder made out of this.
The other fabric used under the hand pockets and for the lining is from the Aunt Grace Ties One On fabric line. By the way, the name of that fabric line just slays me.
And finally, another quick project from Last Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts, a cute little bird ornament. This has Joel Dewberry’s Manzanita for the belly. I certainly have found a lot of places to use that fabric, but I think it’s really neat on these birds because it kind of looks like feathers.
That’s it, just a pile of little things, but I hope she likes them (I know she likes the new cell phone!).
