Happy Thanksgiving!
Welcome to the latest installment on our family quilts (see sidebar for the growing list of posts on this topic). This is another beauty hand pieced and quilted by my Great Grandma Roloff. I love how this one has a decidedly “male” sort of quality to it with all the plaid. I actually didn’t realize until I was looking at the pictures that the center plaid squares are all from the same fabric.
The poor lighting really does not do this quilt justice at all. It’s really lovely.

I also didn’t realize until I was looking at the pictures that I didn’t get a shot with most of the quilt in it at one time. But I have some decent close ups.

And this quilt proves that you can sneak some pink fabrics in there and still have it come out “manly” looking.

This one has a plain muslin backing and self binding (the backing is just folded over to the front to create the binding). The quilting is double lines in a grid. Very simple, and a nice complement to all the plaid.

This is so cute! My mom found a similar quilt at a garage sale made out of men’s clothing. It’s mostly wool, so it’s really warm. I’m really enjoying seeing all of the gorgeous quilts in your family’s collection!
