Two half-way done projects are the same as a completed project, right?

These are two Christmas gifts that I have been working on this weekend. They are picnic blankets with rock pockets by the incredibly creative erin. These are going together REALLY quickly and look super cute so far. Normally I’m a “finish one project at a time” kind of gal, but I don’t have any batting on hand and I’m hoping to get some cheap at the after Thanksgiving sales, so I got the first to the point where I needed the batting and then started on the second, which is now at that point as well.
Not to mention that I am still knee deep in the other project. And I’m going to admit to you all right now that I fully intended that other project to be a Christmas gift, but as the hours of designing and planning and sewing this quilt accumulate, I find myself unable to part with it. Friday night I laid all the finished blocks out on the floor to decide what I wanted to do with them (sashing? no sashing?) and realized this baby wasn’t going anywhere. Not to mention how ridiculously long I think it may take me to quilt this in a way that I think will really look good. I can’t seem to come up with any quilting that I think makes sense and will be quick. So, the friends I had intended that quilt for will get the quilt above on the right, which I hope they will like as well. I hope that doesn’t make me a bad person! I’ll excuse it by saying that, being the first quilt I have made of my own design, and requiring me to do a lot of things I have never done before, that the quality is not really gift-worthy. Which I think actually is probably true! But I will continue to show you my progress, it’s just that it will likely be put on the back burner now until holiday gift sewing is done.
Oh — and I just found out that we have a baby shower to go to in two weeks. With the baby due in February, I thought I had until after the holidays to worry about that, but now I’m not entirely sure what I’m going to do! Maybe just a little gift now with a promise for something more later? We’ll see.
