This is the second in a very many part series on our family quilts that I’ll be posting. See the sidebar on the right for links to all of these posts (short list now, but it will become very long eventually!). My usual apologies for the photo quality — it was a dreary day inside requiring the flash, and the only day it could be done.
This is yet another quilt that was almost certainly made by my Great Grandma Roloff. I absolutely love this pattern (if anyone knows of an official name for it, I’d love to hear it, otherwise I’ll continue calling it “Bow Tie”). This is entirely hand pieced and hand quilted.

The red looks a bit overpowering in these photos, but it’s really gorgeous in person (and might actually be closer to pink — it’s a bit hard to remember already!).
This one has more great feedsack fabrics in it.

Each of the solid setting squares has this hand quilting. Really lovely.

And another close up shot of some of the fabrics for you to enjoy!

The backing is really great as well. There are several places where it says “VAT Colors Sunfast and Washable.” Looks like they didn’t want to waste a thing by trimming that off.

And then they ran out (who hasn’t?) and they just tacked on a little of something else. Awesome!

My brother and sister and I will no doubt having fun fighting over all of these some day!

oh oh oh. That backing and the handstitching in the red squares just made me swoon a little. How wonderful.
Hi Amy,
I found your photo of the SewEzi table in a google search.
I’m the distributor for the SewEzi table in US
I noticed that your machine sits too high in the table. You need to add 3 of the thick white washers to the assembly of the table to bring the machine down, so it sits fluch with the insert. Contact me at barbara@seweziusa.com if you need more wahsers.
Thanks,
Barabara Huthmacher
What a pretty quilt! My grandma has a similar quilt. I love the use of red in antique quilts.
Wow. I love old quilts and this one is wonderful! Don’t you just wish you could have some more of those fabrics?
