Okay, so it’s mid-September and since the first of the month I have done all the quilting on and completed Quilt #4, completed Christmas Gift #1–a Weekender Bag with handle grip for my sister– AND completed Christmas Gift #2, an Amy Butler Blue Sky Hat for my mother. GET OUT!!!

My mother spotted the photo of the one I made for myself a while back. She insisted that she needed one in red to wear to her Red Hat Society events so that she could say to all her friends, “My daughter made it!” Here I am sporting mine:

The one I made for my mother is in Alexander Henry’s Mille Fleur in red, which I am totally in love with. I couldn’t bear to make this a solid red color, so let’s hope my mother doesn’t freak out about how she doesn’t think the colors will look good with the requisite purple clothing or something (I assure you this IS a distinct possibility!). I think it’s smashing! They totally have to go to the races or something, because I can’t think of a better place to wear this hat than Keeneland.

And for those of you that are starting to worry that I might be spoiling something by posting photos of my Christmas gifts, it took my mother and sister 9 months to find the photos of the hat on my flickr account, and neither of them has figured out what a blog is yet, so I think we’re good!
In other sewing-related news, I did manage to get a label on Quilt #4. This time I opted to print out something in color on printable fabric and hand sew it on. Couple of comments on this — you end up wasting an entire sheet of this for one little label. Unless you can put it through the printer more than once, after cutting out a chunk of it. Anyone know???? Secondly, this fabric is most definitely NOT designed for hand stitching. While I love the infinite possibilities of printing on this, someone remind me next time that I need to do this before the quilting so I can sew it on by machine. It was really ridiculous trying to get a needle to puncture that stuff. Yikes!
